It’s a mega-budget seatselection process. With about Rs 1.5 crore being spent on it, the process will hopefully will be smooth and painless for the candidates.
The decentralized counselling will kick off at three Karnataka Examination Authority centres in Bangalore, Gulbarga and Hubli from June 11. KEA has initiated such a process to take the pressure off candidates. They can take part in seat selection closer to their hometowns instead of coming to Bangalore.

KEA officials said all systems are in place. “Everything has been planned; there is no room for glitches,” said an official confidently.
The software was developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Using BSNL connectivity, the process goes online at all three centres. This is backed by radio frequency lines and supported by NIC engineers.
As seat selection process is simultaneous, if there is any problem in one centre, there is an automatic lock-down on computers in other centres as well.
Giving an example, the officer said: “If the 50th ranked candidate in Bangalore has not selected a seat yet, the next ranked candidate, who may be elsewhere, cannot bypass the higher-ranked candidate. If there is a technical snag in one centre and the candidate cannot select her seat, there is lock-down on computers in other centres. Systems should be up and running within 20 minutes.”
The technology is similar to what’s being used by the Railways, only on a smaller scale. Candidates at any centre can choose seats anywhere in the state, added the official.

The seat selection process for medical colleges will start at 9.30 am at all centres on June 11. Lakshmi Savdi, cooperation minister, will inaugurate it in Gulbarga; Murugesh Nirani, minister of large and small industries, will inaugurate the Hubli centre and higher education minister Aravind Limbavalli will kick off counselling in Bangalore.
