The Common Entrance Test (CET) dates for 2010 have been announced. With students across the state preparing for the biggest examinations of their lives — the Class 12 and PUC board exams and CET — the government on Monday made it known when the red-letter day is.
Higher education minister Aravind Limbavali said CET will be held on April 28 and 29, 2010 (see above for timetable). The Kannada language test for Gadinadu and Horanadu candidates is on April 30.

MORE CET COUNSELLING CENTRES

Bringing respite to thousands of candidates, the education department has delivered what it promised to do — to have more CET counselling centres. “Three more counselling centres in Mangalore, Shimoga and Davangere will be operational from 2010,” said Limbavali.
So far, CET counselling has been held in Bangalore, Hubli and Gulbarga. The Karnataka Examinations Authority did this to ease the burden on candidates, who have to travel from faraway places to Bangalore to participate in the counselling.
According to Limbavali, the CET coaching centres through EduSat, which were inaugurated a month ago, is a hit. “The number has increased 102 centres. Also, 50 other areas are asking for such centres,” said Limbavali. He iterated the government’s previous stand, that of having a single CET.

DEVELOPMENT OF COLLEGES

On development of colleges in the state, Limbavali said 175 degree, engineerng and diploma colleges have been planned. Of these, 32 colleges are undergoing infrastructural development and land has to be acquired for 12 colleges.
“The process is going on, and work on 50 colleges will start in a week. KHB, PWD and RITES have been roped in as construction agencies. But excess cash was released in Ramnagar. Of Rs 27 crores sanctioned, we need only Rs 17 crores. I won’t intervene in this. In Hassan, Rs 48 crores was approved for an engineering college and Rs 37 released. But I won’t intervene in this matter, too,” said Limbavali.
