It’s 50:50 for engg, 42:58 for medical ,CET For Dental Is Abolished

Coming to the aid of poor and meritorious students, the Karnataka government and private colleges on Tuesday fixed seat-sharing formula at 50:50 for engineering and 42:58 for medical courses.
The CET has been done away with for dental, Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy courses from this academic year. Admissions will be based on Class 12 or II PU marks.
The fee structure has come down for engineering courses, while it is unchanged for medical courses. In the 50:50 engineering seat ratio, 25% will be kept for poor and meritorious students. The fee is Rs 15,000. The remaining 25% of seats will have Rs 25,000 in fees — the same as last year.
In minority institutions, 20% government engineering seats are allotted for poor and meritorious students with fee of Rs 15,000 and another 20% for Rs 25,000. The rest would be given for managements, higher education minister Aravind Limbavali said.
In non-minority colleges, 50% seats will go to managements. NRI quota will be decided by the Supreme Court.

Bangalore: Students can expect more additional medical seats this year. The seat matrix is 42:58 compared to last year’s 40:60. Medical education minister Ramachandra Gowda said this year the medical seats have been increased by 2%. “The fee structure for the medical course — government and management seats — remains unaltered,” he said. “We will continue to invite applications for courses where CET has been scrapped. In case we get more applications then we will have to conduct CET.’’
The government made it clear that 6% loan subsidy that was introduced last year will continue this year. “Last time, 35,000 applied and the total cost was Rs 16 crore. This year, the number is expected to double,” higher education minister Aravind Limbavali said. He said he and the medical education minister met the CM to seek subsidy for students who had claimed seats in higher fee category. “We will provide subsidy for the entire course,” Limbavali said.
The CET 2009 brochure will be released in the first week of February. The government has visited Hubli and Gulbarga where the CET counselling is expected to take place along with Bangalore. Limbavali said CET coaching for rural candidates will not be held this year.
