600 additional free medical seats likely,CET 2009 counselling commences today

Counselling for CET 2009 commences on Thursday, when the admission round for medical/dental seats will be held for physically disabled candidates.
There are a total of 2,815 medical seats in all the colleges — government, private and minority — in the state. Of these, 1,120 are under the CET or government quota. The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) is expecting nearly 600 more seats to be added to the government quote. Private colleges right now have 1,628 of the total seats. According the medical seat matrix, the government – private college ratio is 42:58; 23:73 for minority institutions and 15:85 for deemed universities.
In the dental stream, the overall availability of seats is 2,350. Of these, 750 are
in the government quote; 1,544 with private colleges and 16 under the all-India quota.
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY
Candidates claiming a seat under the persons-with-disability category have to compulsorily appear before the medical board comprising the executive director and three specialists. The medical examination will be held on Thursday. The board will examine the candidates and certify the percentage of disability. Those with less than 40% diability and those who fail to appear before the committee will not be eligible for selection under the category. The seat selection for eligible candidates for medical/dental/ISM&H courses will also be held on Thursday at 2.30 pm. For engineering/ technology it will be held at 4 pm. The list of eligible candidates prepared by the medical board will be final for selection under the category.

CET RESULTS ON MONDAY
The results of the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2009 will be declared on Monday. They’ll be published in all 227 test centres after 1 pm.

The KCET 2009 results will be declared on May 25. Friday will be the last date to submit mark sheets for CBSE 12 and ISC students. Karnataka Examination Authority officer SP Kulkani said KEA received around 800 mark sheets from students.

The results of the March 2009 second-year PU examinations will be announced on Saturday. It will be posted on the websites 3.30 pm onwards.
All the PU college principals have been directed to collect the results from the deputy directors of the PU department from respective district offices on May 10.

Karnataka SSLC results out today!

Bangalore: BSNL is providing SSLC examination results for 2008-’09 through Integrated Voice Response System for landline and mobile customers on Friday.
CALL THESE NUMBERS
Callers from Bangalore can get the results by dialling 1255225/1250112.
Those dialling from outside Bangalore have to dial the folowing numbers 080-1255225/1250112.
Those using mobiles to get information about the results can dial 12506/1250112 and to get results through SMS type “SSLC space hall ticket no” and send to 55352 or 57777.

Timetable for PU admissions

The pre-university department has announced the time table for the first PU admission for academic year 2009-10. The timetable is as follows: 1 Announcement of seats available, including reserved candidates for I PU and issuing of application forms — April 28 2 Last date for issuing application forms — May 9 3 Last date to submit the application form — May 12 4 Announcement of merit, reserved and category-wise — May 18 5 First list of shortlisted candidates — May 21 6 Last date for fee payment for first list candidates — May 25 7 Second list of shortlisted candidates — May 27 8 Last date for fee payment for second list candidates — May 30 9 Third list of shortlisted candidates — June 2 10 Last date for payment of fees for third list candidates — June 5 11 Announcement of cut-off percentage for the last round of admission — June 6 12 Date of commencement of classes — June 8
If seats are vacant even after the deadline, colleges are allowed to issue applications and fill such seats within the prescribed last date. Classes for II PUC starts from June 1. Students can’t change colleges unless their parents are transferred or retired.
If colleges comes under the same district (both present and transfer), then the respective deputy directors will give or deny permission for change. The application should reach
the deputy director by June 10. If the change is inter-district, then applications should be submitted to the PU commissioner’s office, Bangalore. If colleges fall within 10-km radius, no transfers will be allowed.
From 2009-10, students can’t change the system of education from CBSC/ICSC to state for II PU, and they have to continue the same system. If they want to switch over, they will have to study I PU in the state system.

Poll effect: CET now on May 6, 7

The Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to professional colleges has been postponed in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Karnataka Examination Authority on Tuesday announced May 6 and 7 as the new dates for CET. The earlier dates were April 29 and 30.
Common Entrance Test and Kannada-language test for Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates will be held as follows:
Wednesday, May 6: 10.30-11.50 am: Biology (60 marks); 2.30 -3.50 pm: Maths (60 marks) Thursday, May 7: 10.30-11.50 am: Physics (60 marks); 2.30-3.50 pm: Chemistry (60 marks) Friday, May 8: 11 am: Kannada test for Gadinadu Kannadigas; 1 pm: Kannada test for Horanadu Kannadigas.
However, the seat-selection process will be held as per the schedule notified in the CET-2009 brochure.

It’s 50:50 for engg, 42:58 for medical ,CET For Dental Is Abolished

Coming to the aid of poor and meritorious students, the Karnataka government and private colleges on Tuesday fixed seat-sharing formula at 50:50 for engineering and 42:58 for medical courses.
The CET has been done away with for dental, Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy courses from this academic year. Admissions will be based on Class 12 or II PU marks.
The fee structure has come down for engineering courses, while it is unchanged for medical courses. In the 50:50 engineering seat ratio, 25% will be kept for poor and meritorious students. The fee is Rs 15,000. The remaining 25% of seats will have Rs 25,000 in fees — the same as last year.
In minority institutions, 20% government engineering seats are allotted for poor and meritorious students with fee of Rs 15,000 and another 20% for Rs 25,000. The rest would be given for managements, higher education minister Aravind Limbavali said.

It’s official. After months of being on tenterhooks on whether CET will be held for two days or one day, engineering, medical and dental aspirants can finally heave a sigh of relief.

At the KEA governing council meeting headed by higher education minister Aravind Limbavali on Wednesday, it was decided that CET 2009 (Common Entrance Test) will be held on April 29 and 30. “In the last two years, CET was conducted on one day. This year we decided to conduct it on two days in the interest of students,” the minister told reporters. Read more »
